You Are The Queen
"Don’t make your man a king. Be the queen and he’ll have to become one." -- Yogi Bhajan
I have to be honest with you. The queen sensibility is not something I shy away from. Au contraire. This Leo sun, attention-loving gal is happy to be queen. But this queen-ness is something I also deeply enjoy teaching others. Reminding each and every woman I possibly can that her crown, throne, and empire is all hers for the taking - she just has to claim it.
And although "The Queen" is a state of mind I love to embody, I don't always honor it in the hustle of daily life. When I am stressed, burdened, exhausted and overtaxed, I’m much more mentally servant than sovereign.
So what's a gal to do?
I’ve been contemplating this dichotomy and this queen awareness for the past few months and then I stumbled upon this quote from Marianne Williamson:
At every moment, a woman makes a choice: between the state of the queen and the state of the slavegirl. In our natural state, we are glorious beings. In the world of illusion, we are lost and imprisoned, slaves to our appetites and our will to false power. Our jailer is a three-headed monster--one head our past, one our insecurity, and one our popular culture.
Holy wow, right? Yes! We CAN be queen, we just have to live in the present and rise above our insecurities. Easier said than done, sure. And you might be wondering how to connect with that innate, inherent glory in a way that doesn't feel bossy or overpowering.
First, remember that each of us is a work in progress as we claim our queendom. Moreover, it's not that you're the queen and no one else is, we are all entitled to finding and claiming our own crown. We get to be rulers and royals together.
Second, I'll share a favorite practice I learned from a teacher and spectacular Kinesiologist in NYC. It's called the Queen Walk and I recommend it to my clients often. The directions are simple. Take a walk for no shorter than 20 minutes and as you walk, silently repeat to yourself "I am the queen" every time your eyes light on an object. A crack in the sidewalk, a blade of grass, a face, a cloud, a car, etc. To the men reading this, just sub in" king", you’re smart boys, right? You got this.
This practice is profound. Reclaim your dignity, majesty and rulership, and you WILL be that royal you were destined to be.
